The Start of Something New

The beginning of something new... excited, terrified and a little lost!

I would be the first to admit I am a bit crazy with being organised. I need everything clear and tidy in my mind so I know what to focus on and what my aims are. I have been on UniHub countless times since December trying to figure everything out. Now this has been tricky considering enrolment didn't open until 6th January! Now even though I knew it was the 6th, I still tried several times to get on, just in case it had changed.  So as you can imagine, feeling lost is something I am not very comfortable with.

There are a lot of new things I will experience from starting this course:
  •  Blogging
  •  Referencing
  •  Working full time and studying
  •  Using the University website, Library and Turnitin
  •  Skype
  •  The course itself!
All this can seem very overwhelming, but having read the handbooks and after the induction skype, I felt that a really strong message was to read other peoples blogs, Student's and Supervisor's. So I have, and I'm really glad I have because I have seen that it is ok to feel lost. I am starting something brand new, so it would be impossible for me to know exactly what I'm supposed to do at every moment.

Having read some of Adesola's blog posts I've seen that actually being lost is part of the learning process. If I know everything, how can I then broaden my mind to other possibilities?

So, although I still have this sticky feeling of being lost, maybe being lost is exactly where I am meant to be right now, and my own negative connotations with the word need to be re-evaluated.

So, its the beginning of something new... excited, terrified, a little lost...and that's ok!

I'm so glad I read your blog as I feel completely the same. If i'm honest I think all of the new module 1 bloggers do! As you said its a brand new adventure and a new way of learning, so thank goodness for these blogs that we don't have to feel lost by ourselves.
I look forward to reading your future posts. Feel free to check my blog out too!

  2. Hello Alys,

I can completely relate to this! I feel very lost...but I'm hoping with my first ever blog it might give me a bit of confidence and connect with others who are also going through the same process! Keep it up! :)

  4. Hi Alys, great to read your post. Hope you’re slowing piecing things together and starting to feel a little more comfortable. I’ve got to agree with everything you’ve written here, and eases my stress a little knowing we’re all in the same boat! Looking forward to continuing this journey with you.

  5. Hi Alys,

Both my partner and I felt this way during the beginning stages of module one and I found the best way to deal with it is to just start writing and making notes about your practice and looking in to the lenses and texts that relate to them!

I’m in Module Two now and definitely ended up with submission that I was proud of for Mod One- I have no doubt you’ll be grand!

    1. Hi Laura,
Ahh thank you! Such a relief to hear of others feeling the same. That's really useful information, I have started looking at the lenses but feel I need to go into more detail with them. I will look at some texts surrounding them.
      Thank you!
