Group Skype 1
The information from others was invaluable. It became clear to me, from many of the now module two people, that the essay and artefact go hand in hand. They compliment each other and should work in harmony. When discussing which one should be done first, I realised that to get the best results they should be done together and so become fluid. Yes, they are different pieces of work, but they work together and each enhance the other. It is also important to make a decision and commit to it. 12 weeks will go fast, so if you have an idea, go for it! What’s different about the artefact, is that it can be what you want it to be. Some of the suggestions included videos, spider diagrams and pictures with annotations. Be creative!
It was also discussed that it is important to go deep into your own practice, really analyse what you do. The greater depth of understanding of yourself and your practice, the more impact this course will have on it for the better. To get a greater understanding it is important to look out, as well as look with in. I need to go out and read literature and watch videos that inspire me and then see how they impact my practice. How do these things change me and how I work? It is also important to look at my past, so I can understand how I have got to the place I am today. I need to reflect on my prior learning.
A phrase that was said last night was ‘Be curious’ and that has resonated with me. I am going to be curious and explore ideas that would have scared me in the past. If I am not curious, if I am not interested, then how am I going to learn? I need to push myself past my comfort zones of what I know, or what I think I know.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting your blog, it has been so useful to me. I missed out on this Skype call and I am also new to Module 1. I am also going to take away the phrase 'be curious' and continue to research and educate myself with the reading list. I watched a Youtube video of a past student doing a diagram (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Hi6IXde4pQ) it was useful to see how ideas develop, although even thinking about having to this, just yet, scares me haha!
Thank you again for posting this, it has made me feel a lot better,
Paul
Hi,
DeleteThank you for reading and commenting! I'm glad it has been useful to you. I have watched the link you sent and I found it really interesting and it has helped me get some ideas. Thank you again
Alys
hi Paul! thank you for that link i found it a useful example of how to develop ideas! thank you, anushka
DeleteHi Alys, Thank you for posting this blog! I too couldn't attend the evening call and therefore its great to find out some more tips for this course. I definitely agree with the module 2 students advice on "being curious"! I think this is key for us developing and exploring research for this module. Also you mentioning about doing the essay and the artifact hand in hand is really helpful. However I agree with Paul, the thought of doing this just yet scares me too!
ReplyDeleteHi Emma,
DeleteThank you for reading my post and I'm glad it helped! I am trying to look at being scared as a good thing...it means I'm pushing myself out of my comfort zone and exploring new ideas. I'm finding the more research I'm doing, the more I'm getting out, I feel like I have to completely submerge myself in all this information! However, it does still daunt me, but I'm trying to push through it!
Hi Alys,
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I read this! I have been unable to attend skype sessions either because I haven't been added in or because I've been busy with my children. Reading your post was a great insight into what was discussed during the skype call.
I feel like I need to start looking into this a bit more! I don't want to get left behind!
Bronte
Hi Bronte,
DeleteI'm glad I could help! I started with the handbooks and I am constantly going through them and its really helping me make sense of things. When I feel a little behind or lost that's what I go back to. I also find a key word from them and then research it, so I gain a better understanding of what's behind the course. I hope this helps!
Hi Alys!
ReplyDeleteThank you for theist, i couldn't attend the Skype call and am beginning to feel as if i am getting behind so this was useful for me! I would love if you could share some examples of what people listed as potential artefacts, as this is one point i am struggling to get my head around! Thank you,
Anushka
Hi Anushka,
DeleteI was really struggling with the idea of the artefact too, but what I came to learn is that it has to be right for you, something that represents your personal professional practice. Some people mentioned doing a film or a spider diagram or a diagram with pictures and words. Everyone has said a useful starting point has been doing a mind map or noting down key words to do with their practice. Something that works for someone else, might not work for you, so I believe by using the term 'artefact' they are giving us the freedom to explore what is right for us and our own practice. I hope this helps!
Alys
Thank you for the reply! Yes that makes sense, i like the spider diagram idea as this is much easier to add on to and elaborate on than a traditional essay!
